What is RSS?

RSS is a way that you can to stay in touch by choosing to receive information from your favourite sites without sinking under information overload.

Think of RSS as your regular newspaper and your favourite magazine – delivered to your computer.

Magazine and Newspaper RSS
Read the article that interests you
Order your newspaper from the newsagent Whilst on your favourite website, you notice there’s an RSS feed link
Place an annual subscription for your favourite magazine
The postman or paper boy delivers
and posts it through the letterbox An RSS Reader is like a letterbox. If you’ve not done this before, see below for advice
The paper or mag lands on door mat Headlines from your selected feed arrive on your landing page
Open the mag / paper Click on the link – if you are interested
Go through the contents page to find what you are looking for Go straight through to the news story

To continue the analogy, first you need to get an “RSS letterbox”. Known as an RSS Reader, there are many different ones available – some free and some paid for. Because different news readers work on different operating systems, you’ll need to choose one that’s right for you. A really simple way to do it is to ‘personalise’ your Google homepage.

Windows

Mac OS X

Web

Browser

Once you have a reader, subscribe to the RSS feeds that you want to receive.

Then, depending on your system, subscribe to GraphicoDMG’s RSS feed, by either using the RSS link below.

Latest news RSS feed

or

Copying and pasting this http://feeds2.feedburner.com/GraphicoLatestNews into your reader.

The RSS feeds you’ve selected, including the GraphicoDMG feed, will then appear in your reader as they are published to your site.

Think of the reader as like your doormat. You should now go to your doormat and check what’s there. Click on any other links to open the story and find out more.

And if, after a while you find you aren’t reading a particular feed, it’s really easy to delete a feed too.
